Every year, people of African descent gather at Coney Island at the Tribute to Our Ancestors of the Middle Passage. We are celebrating and remembering those Africans who lost their lives during the slave trade. They crossed the Atlantic Ocean and died under horrible conditions for over 400 years. They are nameless, graveless and almost forgotten. But one day a year, we, as a community, remember them. But every day, we should live our lives, in the best we canin honor of them and our ancestors who survived so that we could live. "We are the dream of the slaves." Do you think they could have never imagined the opportunities that we have now?
